Are you facing the “Exchange is currently in Recovery Mode” error? If yes then you will find this article helpful because in this article we will see how to deal with the OST file error.

Why this error occurs?

The above stated error occurs when you are working in the Cached Exchange mode having some technical issues.

What is Cached Exchanged Mode?

It is one of the prominent features of MS Exchange Server that helps synchronize the offline work done in MS Outlook 2010, 2007, and 2003 with Exchange server in a flawless manner. If anything wrong happens to this mode then the synchronization problem occurs causing the connection loss between MS Outlook and Exchange Server. Due to this connection loss, OST becomes inaccessible resulting in data loss.

In other words, we can say that it is another name of Outlook’s Offline mode. When you enable Offline mode (Cached mode) then due to inconsistency on Exchange mailbox, you may experience the below error message, which we are resolving in this article:

“Exchange is currently in recovery mode. You can either connect to your Exchange server using the network, or work offline, or cancel this logon.”

Solution to Fix “Exchange is currently in Recovery Mode” error

The best solution to fix this error message is making OST file accessible once again by repairing it. But, the problem is Outlook may not read the read the repaired OST file. In such a scenario, you are left with only one solution, which is OST to PST Conversion. It is, in fact, the best solution because a PST file can be opened with any version of MS Outlook regardless of profile limitation that we have to face in case of OST file.

Why the OST becomes inaccessible when working in Cached Exchange Mode?

The problem occurs because Exchange server notices some inconsistencies or when the OST file is rest, Exchange Server destroys the connection with the old OST file and creates a new one. In this case, the old OST file becomes inaccessible as it has no more relation with the Exchange server or the Outlook profile. It means you cannot access the data stored in it. And, if you try to open the old OST file with the same Outlook profile then the newly created OST file may also be inaccessible.

So, in such a tough situation, the best solution available is converting OST to PST using a good OST to PST converter that is known to deliver great results.

Note: If you think that the information available in the old OST file is useless, you can just delete that and continue working with the new OST file. However, if there is a single % chance of having some important emails, contacts, etc in that file and you do not want to take the risk of losing that data then you are suggested to download OST to PST tool and run it to perform the conversion. Always remember to create a copy of the existing OST file before you execute any OST to PST application on it.
